H i lovely readers!! Today I’ll like to introduce LASER HAIR REMOVAL at ASTIQUE CLINIC to you. There are many kinds of hair removal methods in the market today. The most common being those using IPL at beauty salons. However, most doctors will tell you that the GOLD STANDARD for hair removal is still via the use of laser.
I’ve always found the tiny fuzz around the upper lip area annoying and quite embarrassing. Its not like a man’s moustache but hairy enough to be a female moustache plus it gives me that comical milk moustache when I’m having my latte.
More importantly, when doing beauty or jewellery shoots, there are lots of close-ups on the face and skin and it’s really not the nicest thing if those tiny fuzz starts showing up. Maximum unpleasant distraction LOL.
At Astique Clinic, Dr Matthew Yap uses a mix of both Q-Switched ND:Yag laser and long-pulsed ND:Yag laser for hair removal.
The Q-Switched laser is pretty much the same laser you do for facial rejuvenation. It targets the fine hairs and gives a warm ticklish sensation as it is passed over the skin. It targets the shallower hairs and is extremely quick and painless.
Dr Matt will begin with a low setting first and make sure that you are comfortable before slowly ramping it up.
There are, however, stubborn hairs too =( For example those right above the lip line at the corners of the lips, the center of the upper lip and the area right below the nose. So this is where the Long-pulsed ND:Yag laser comes in!
I was quite amazed by it honestly. I had my eyes closed and did not realise the device actually came with a COLD plate attached at the front so that it numbs the skin simultaneously wile the pulse is shot. (I thought that there was a separate icing device used!)
YES that’s the icy plate. The shots from this laser hurt a teeny bit more than the Q-Switched but is extremely bearable. It feels like IPL if you’ve done it before (something like a light rubber band snap on the skin). Not to worry though, cos the icy plate numbs the skin and it’ll be a breeze.
This long-pulsed laser is effective for coarser, darker hairs like those on the knees, legs and other areas of the body too.
Cos I was wearing rings for the shoot too, I wanted the fuzz off my fingers as well. In a few minutes, the laser zapped them all away beautifully
Depending on your hair regrowth rate, you can return for your next session in about 4-6 weeks time.
See you again soon!
